Skeletal System Flashcards
Bones of the face and skull:
which 8 bones of the skull make up the cranium
Frontal Bone- forehead
Parietal Bones (2)- between frontal and occipital bone top centre of cranium
Occipital Bone- very back of head
Temporal Bones (2)- temples
Ethmoid Bone- inner eye socket
Sphenoid Bone- between zygomatic and temporal bones
Bones of the face and skull: which bones make up the structure of the face
Lacrimal Bone- behind nasal Nasal Bone- nose Maxilla- upper jaw Mandible- lower jaw Zygomatic- cheekbones
Bones of the Pelvis
name them and where the are located (5)
Sacrum- lower part of the spine
Illium- hipbone
Pubis- proximal to ischium
Ischium- lateral distal to pubis
Coccyx- tailbone
Bones of the lower extremity (leg):
name and describe location (7)
Femur- largest and strongest bone in body, upper leg
Patella- knee cap
Tibia- large bone in lower leg next to Fibula
Fibula- smaller bone lateral to Tibia
Tarsals- most proximal in foot
Metatarsals- next section after tarsals
Phalanges- toes, most distal in foot
Bones of the Spine:
-what is C1 and C2
-name the vertebrae sections and how many bones make up each
C1= Atlas, very first spinal bone
C2= Axis, second spinal bone
(c1+c2 are the only bones named in the vertebrae)
Cervical V.- first 7 bones
Thoracic V.- middle 12 bones
Lumbar V.- last 5 bones
Sacrum and Coccyx also apart of spine
Bones of the Chest/Thorax:

Bones of the upper extremities:
name and describe location
Humerus- upper arm Radius- lateral to ulna Ulna- medial to radius Carpals- most proximal in hand Metacarpals- mid hand Phalanges- fingers
How many ribs are there, how many true and false
