single and double blind procedures Flashcards
What is a pilot study
A small scale investigation that takes place before the real investigation is conducted - the aim is to check procedures, materials, measuring scales etc, work and to allow the researcher to make changes or modifications is necessary
What is a single-blind procedure
Participants are not aware of the condition they are in; attempt to control for the confounding effects of demand characteristics
What is a double blind procedure
Neither the participants or the researcher are aware of the aims of the investigation; used in drug trials
What is a observational technique
Naturalistic observation - studying behaviour in a natural setting where everything has been left as it is normally
