analysis Flashcards
What is content analysis (and no i do not mean content creators as ik u both were thinking about ofc)
Research analysing secondary data and data you have already collected - data is split into catagories
Describe the process involved in content analysis
whats that
you don’t want to do it
well um
YOU DONT HAVE A CHOICE SO START TALKING OR I SHALL RELEASE KACPER ON U <3
- A representative sample of qualitative data is collected, for example, from an interview, magazine
- Coding units are identified to analyse the data (a coding unit could be, e.g. an act of violence)
- The qualitative data is then analysed to see how often each coding unit occurs
What type of data would be ised for content analysis
Secondary data
Give some strengths of content analysis
- Inexpensive (my favourite word)
- Ethics- participants are not directly involved, so less ethical issues
Give some weaknesses of content analysis
- Data analysis - can be very time consuming
- Subjectivity
What is thematic analysis (and nooo it is not to do with themes)
Making summaries of data and identifying key themes and categories
(oh okay nvm maybe it is)
What is the process for thematic analysis
- The researcher becomes familiar with the data, then they start to look for different themes, review the themes, define and name the themes and then write a report
Give some strengths for thematic analysis
- Qualitative data preserves the detail in the data
- Creating hypotheses during the analysis allows for new insights to be developed
- Some objectivity can be established by using triangulation - other sources of data are used to check conclusions
Give some weaknesses for thematic analysis
- Deciding which catagories to use and whether a statement fits a particular catagory
- Deciding what to leave out of the summary - data can be lost
- Subjective (sounds like my footnotes for epq)
