charts and distributions Flashcards
What is a bar chart used for
It is used to present non-continuous data (e.g. blood group)
How is a bar chart different to a histogram
Columns do not touch
Just like no one will ever touch us :D
What are histograms used for
They are used when you have continuous data - the columns touch and it is the height of the column that shows the number of values in each interval
What is a correlational analysis
It is a measure of how closely two variables are related
no comment … everything is normal … elishka is not keeping me captive … what
Give some advantages of correlational analysis
- Do not need to use a controlled experiment
- Can use sensitive data obtained from hospitals, for example
Give some disadvantages of correlational analysis
- Cannot establish cause and effect - third variable
- Coefficients can be due to chance
What is a correlation coefficient
It is a number between -1 and +1 = the closer it is, the stronger the relationship between the variables
What is positive correlation
As one variable rises, the other rises
IDK WHY but this sentence makes me think o the lorax … lets not get into why or how
What is negative correlation
As one variable rises, the other falls
NOW THIS … this reminds me of the nightmare before Christmas …. again lets not get into why
What is the definition of no correlation (wow someone sounds sophisticated with ‘definition’ instead of ‘meaning’ … no … okay)
Variables are not linked
