simple organs: membranes Flashcards
1
Q
membranes
A
- simplest organs
- only two tissue types
- epithelium attached to CT (with a basement membrane b/w them)
2
Q
membrane types
A
mucous membranes
serous membranes
synovial membranes
3
Q
mucous membranes (mucosa)
A
- line cavities which open directly to the body exterior
- 2 layers:
a. epithelial layer (avascular) varies from simple squamous to pseudostratified
b. CT (loose areolar-vascular), named the lamina propria, nourished epithelial cells)
4
Q
serous membranes (serosa)
A
-line close cavities that do not open to the exterioir like abdominal and chest cavities
-covers organs in these cavities
-double membranes- each composed of epithelial layers (often simple squamous) next to serous cavity and CTs (areolar):
a. parietal layer - against cavity wall
b. visceral layer - against (slippery)
-named for location:
pleura-lung (visceral and parietal pleura)
peritoneum-abdominal organs
pericardium-heart
5
Q
synovial membranes
A
- in joints
- areolar CT, no epithelium ( only one tissue type)
6
Q
cutaneous membranes
A
- skin
- epithelium=stratified squamous (named the epidermis)
- CT = areolar and dense irregular (named the dermis)
