Shoulder Orthopedic Tests Flashcards
Apprehension Test
-90 degrees of abduction/90 degrees of ext. rotation
-Instability/pain = previous dislocation of shoulder
Apley’s Scratch Test
-Arm Overhead/Hand behind the back
-Pain at shoulder indicates a rotator cuff tear/potential degenerative tendinitis
Crank Test
-160 of flexion, bend arm then axial compression, int/ext rotate the shoulder
-Clicking/popping=SLAP Lesion/Rotator Cuff Tear
Hawkins Kennedy Test
-90 degrees of flexion/internally rotate
-Positive: Pain = impingement of Supraspinatus
Drop Arm Test/Codman’s Test
-Severe pain in the shoulder = tear to the rotator cuff/Supraspinatus
Dugas Test
-Touch hand to the opposite shoulder/lower elbow to their chest
-Unable to bring elbow to chest = shoulder dislocation
Neer’s Test
-Arm into full flexion
-Pain in anterior shoulder = impingement syndrome
Posterior Dislocation Apprehension Test
-Patient supine, Elbow bent in 90 degrees
-Go behind scapula, other hand on humerus
-Positive: Previous dislocated shoulder/instability
Relocation Test
-In front of the Glenohumeral test
-Decrease in pain=dislocated shoulder
-Pain stays=other damage in the shoulder, not dislocation
-Similar to apprehension test
Sulcus Sign
-Hand on the shoulder/lean over
-Positive=Dimpling in of tissue, showing instability
-Both: Paint has more mobility
Load and shift
-Hand on shoulder to stabilize, grab humerus
-Feel A-P/P-A
-Positive: Labrum Tear
Dawbarn’s sign
-Patient has stated pain in front of the bursa
-Lift arm to 90 degrees
-Pain Continues = rotator cuff tear
-Pain Stops = Subacromial bursitis
Subacromial Push-Button Sign
-Doctor palpates the anterior/inferior aspect of AC process of arm in neutral position
-Push over Subacromial bursa
-Pain = Bursitis over the area (local pain)
Lift Off Sign
-Hand placed behind the back/tries to lift hand away from the back
-Weakness or pain = lesion of the subscapularis muscle or tendon
