Elbow Orthopedics/Anatomy Flashcards
Cozens Test
-Elbow at 90 degrees/pronate+extend the wrist/resist
-Stresses: Extensor carpi radialis longus/brevis
-Positive Test: Pain at the lateral epicondyle
Mills Test
-Pronate arm/flex the wrist/supinate against resistance
-Pain in the lateral epicondyle (+) = lateral epicondylitis
Kaplan’s Sign
-Arm flexed at 90 degrees, holding dynamometer with wrist slightly extended
-Weakness and/or pain in the lateral epicondyle = lateral epicondylitis
-Increase in strange and/or decrease in pain = lateral epicondylitis
Elbow Stress Tests
-Supination, Pronation, Valgus, Varus
Pinch Grip Test
-Have patient pinch their index finger and thumb together
-If they can’t do it = impingement of the anterior interossei branch of the median nerve
Medial Epicondylitis Test
-Supinate/Extend the wrist and have patient resist
-Pain in the medial aspect of the elbow = medial epicondylitis
Tinel’s Sign Procedure
-Reflex hammer on the ulnar nerve in the cubital tunnel
-Tapping causes pain/tingling indicates damage to the ulnar nerve neuritis or neuroma
Muscles affected by the Cozens Test
Extensor carpi radialis longus/brevis
The pinch grip test affects the ________ of the _______ nerve
Anterior interossei; median
Tinel’s Sign Positive
Damage to the Ulnar nerve neuritis or neuroma
Elbow Extension Muscles
Triceps and anconeus
Innervation of Elbow Extensors
Radial Nerve C6-8
Elbow Flexors
Biceps and brachialis
Innervation of the elbow flexors
Musculocutaneous (C5-6)
Pronation Muscles
