Shoulder - muscles (protraction and retraction of scapula) Flashcards
Name the 2 scapula protractor muscles and identify where they are located on the human body (if unable check on Complete Anatomy)
Pectoralis minor
Serratus anterior
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the pectoralis minor?
o Origin – Anterior ends of 3rd-5th ribs
o Insertion – Coracoid process of scapula
o Innervation – Medial and lateral pectoral nerves (C5-T1)
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the serratus anterior?
o Origin – External surfaces of 1st-9th ribs
o Insertion – Medial border of scapula
o Innervation – Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
Name the 2 scapula retractor muscles and identify where they are located on the human body (if unable check on Complete Anatomy)
Trapezius
Latissimus dorsi
Other contributing muscles are rhomboid major and rhomboid minor
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the descending part of trapezius?
Origin – External occipital protuberance and superior nuchal line of occipital boke, nuchal ligament, spinous process of C7 vertebra
Insertion – Posterior aspect of lateral one third of clavicle, acromion of scapula
Innervation – Accessory nerve, anterior rami of 3rd and 4th cervical nerves
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the transverse part of trapezius?
Origin – Spinous process of C7-T4 vertebrae
Insertion – Acromion of scapula, lateral end of spine of scapula
Innervation – Accessory nerve, anterior rami of 3rd and 4th cervical nerves
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the ascending part of trapezius?
Origin – Spinous processes of T5-T12 vertebrae
Insertion – Medial end of spine of scapula
Innervation – Accessory nerve, anterior rami of 3rd and 4th cervical nerves
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the serratus anterior?
o Origin – External surfaces of 1st-9th ribs
o Insertion – Medial border of scapula
o Innervation – Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
