Hip - muscles (flexion and extension) Flashcards
Name the 5 hip flexor muscles and identify where they are located on the human body (if unable check on Complete Anatomy)
Iliacus
Psoas major
Pectineus
Rectus femoris
Sartorius
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the iliacus muscle?
Origin - Iliac crest, superior two thirds of iliac fossa
Insertion – Lesser trochanter of femur, via tendon of psoas major
Innervation – Femoral nerve (L2-L3)
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the psoas major muscle?
Origin – Transverse processes of L1-L5 vertebrae, adjacent intervertebral discs
Insertion – Lesser trochanter of femur
Innervation – Anterior rami of first, second and third lumbar nerves
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the pectineus muscle?
Origin – Superior pubic ramus
Insertion – Pectineal line of femur
Innervation – Femoral (L2-l3) and obturator nerves (L2-L3)
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the rectus femoris muscle?
Origin – Anterior inferior iliac spine and supraacetabular groove of ilium
Insertion – Tibial tuberosity, via tendon of quadriceps femoris muscle and patellar ligament
Innervation – Femoral nerve (L2-L4)
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the sartorius muscle?
Origin – Anterior superior iliac spine
Insertion – Medial aspect of proximal part of tibia
Innervation – Femoral nerve (L2-L3)
What plane and axis does hip flexion/extension occur in?
Sagittal plane
Transverse/Horizontal axis
Name the 4 hip extensor muscles and identify where they are located on the human body (if unable check on Complete Anatomy)
Biceps femoris
Semimembranosus
Semitendinosus
Gluteus maximus
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the biceps femoris muscle?
Origin – Ischial tuberosity, Linea aspera, and lateral supracondylar line
Insertion – Head of fibula
Innervation – Tibial (L5-S2) and common fibular (L5-S2) divisions of sciatic nerve
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the semimembranosus muscle?
Origin – Ischial tuberosity
Insertion – Medial condyle of tibia
Innervation – Tibial division of sciatic nerve (L5-S2)
What is the origin, insertion and innervation of the gluteus maximus muscle?
Origin – Area of ilium located posterior to its posterior gluteal line, posterior aspects of sacrum and coccyx and sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion – Tubercle of iliotibial tract of tibia, via iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur
Innervation – Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
