Hip - muscles (adduction and abduction) Flashcards
Name the 4 hip abductor muscles
Gluteus Minimus Muscle
Gluteus Medius Muscle
Gluteus Maximus Muscle - attaches to IT band
Tensor Fasciae Latea Muscle - attaches to IT band
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the gluteus minimus muscle?
Origin – Area of ileum located between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion – Anterolateral aspect of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation – Superior gluteal nerve (L5-S1)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the gluteus medius muscle?
Origin - Area of ileum located between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion – Lateral aspect of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation - Superior gluteal nerve (L5-S1)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the gluteus maximus muscle?
Origin – Area of ilium located posterior to its posterior gluteal line, posterior aspects of sacrum and coccyx and sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion – Tubercle of iliotibial tract of tibia, via iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur
Innervation – Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the tensor fasciae latae muscle?
Origin – Anterior superior iliac spine and anterior one third of outer lip of iliac crest
Insertion – Tubercle of IT tract on the tibia, via IT tract
Innervation – Superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1)
Name the 5 hip adductor muscles
Adductor magnus muscle
Adductor brevis muscle
Adductor longus muscle
Pectineus muscle
Gracilis muscle
‘3 ducks pecking grass’
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the adductor magnus muscle?
Origin – Inferior pubic ramus, ramus of ischium, and ischial tuberosity
Insertion – Gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line, and adductor tubercle
Innervation – Obturator nerve (L2-L4) and tibial division of sciatic nerve (L4)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the adductor brevis muscle?
Origin – Body of pubis and inferior pubis ramus
Insertion – Proximal one third of medial lip of linea aspera of femur
Innervation – Anterior branch of obturator nerve (L2-L3)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the adductor longus muscle?
Origin – Anterior surface of body of pubis

Innervation – Anterior branch of obturator nerve (L2-L3)
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the pectineus muscle?
Origin – Superior pubic ramus
Insertion – Pectineal line of femur
Innervation – Femoral (L2-L3) and obturator (L2-L3) nerves
What is the Origin, Insertion and Innervation of the gracilis muscle?
Origin – Body of pubis and inferior pubic ramus
Insertion – Medial aspect of proximal part of tibia
Innervation – Obturator nerve (L2-L3)
