designing questionnaires
Techniques for closed questions include: Likert scales, rating scales, fixed-choice option
likert scale
idicates agreement, usually 5 points.
from strongly agree to strongly disagree.
rating scale
identify value that represents their strength of feeling about particular topic.
fixed choice option
list of possible options, indicate those that apply to them (more than 1).
designing interviews
Interviews should include an interview schedule: a standard set of questions to reduce interviewer bias.
ethics in interview
Confidentiality is important if the interview (or questionnaire) is dealing with personal or sensitive topics.
writing good q’s
If respondents or interviewees are confused by the way questions are worded, this will have a negative impact on the quality of information received.
what to avoid in both
Questions should not include too much jargon, be leading or use emotive language, be double-barrelled or include double-negatives.
