Section 9- Khan's solo Flashcards

Khan is kneeling down just left of downstage centre. He looks down at the floor in front of him and places his hand on his heart then takes it directly forwards and opens to the side.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation. How is it developed?
Khan from kneeling, sits himself to the side and performs the chin mudra gesture with his left hand, towards stage right. He then opens his fingers. Chin mudra means wholeness and so opening the gesture out could represent that the wholeness has disappeared, the body is no longer whole as the spirit has left.
Developed by performing the gesture with both hands, crossed over his chest. Suggesting safety and comfort.
What does this movement say about Khan’s thoughts?
This movement has a really internal focus. The use of the closed eyes shows the inner reflection. It can also show the grief and emotional torment of knowing what is right and what he has to do.

Exchange of places. Larbi gets up from the floor and slowly walks back to stand just behind Khan. He sits qith one knee bent up, the other on the floor, hand performing chin mudra resting on the knee. Khan kneels beside Marka downstage centre and then mimes out undoing a necklace and earings and placing them down next to the body. This is like a mark of respect, removing the personal affects from a dead body.

Khan walks towards stage left gauze, cups his hands towards the wall and leans forwards as if whispering in to it. He’s tying to remove some of the extra emotional baggage. The whispering in to a wall comes from a chinese story and shows his love of stories.
