Section 12- Larbi acts as the guard Flashcards
Who does Larbi represent in this section? How can you tell?
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi puts his foot on Khan’s head and turns it to face the same way as Markas head. this gives the impression that it is Khan who has got himself in to this situation and so he at least needs to get it right.
Blurs the boundaries again
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi puts his foot on the thorasic region of the spine. In response, Khan lifts his head and torso off the floor, hyperextending the spine.
This can show the creative process and the experimentation process to find out how the casts move. Also shows manipulation.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi places his foot on the wrist of Marka, this shows the brutality and souless nature of the guards.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi grabs the head of Marka and repeatedly shoves it in to the ground. Khan mirrors this movement. This makes the audience question why they are doing this. Are they checking the person is dead? Can they still feel it?
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi flips Marka over to lie on his back and Khan flips symmetrical on to his back. Larbi bends over to pick up Khan’s arm and looks at Marka, he obviously doesnt respond. This makes the audience laugh.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi picks up both Marka and Khan and holds them over his shoulders. They both hang down limply. This further blurs the boundaries between living and dead, between being part of the physical setting or a performer.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi ‘shrugs’ Marka and Khan off his shoulder and they drop with a thud to the ground. This really highlights the brutality of the treatment of the body. The way that Larbi stands with his hands to his head could suggest how he can’t believe that this is his job and that despite appearing soulless, he really does care.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi reaches out towards Ibral for help. Ibral doesnt respond. This shows how he is being shunned for treating the body with such disrespect.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Once again Larbi reaches out for help, this time to the audience. This is an example of how he breaks the fourth wall.
Explain the movement this picture represents and its interpretation.
Larbi stands Ibral up towards stage right facing downstage. Larbi then connects Khan who is sat up, and Marka who lies on the floor. This creates a human chain which could represent the idea of decomposition. This links to section 8 when Khan says “In lif and death, everything is in motion”
