Q

Define stop and go

A

A procedure in which an aircraft lands, makes a complete stop on the runway, and the ncommences a takeoff from that point. ( THERE IS NO SPECIFIED TIME OF STOPPAGE, IT IS A RISKY MANOUEVRE FOR a controller to allow because we can’t know the timing)

Q

When and how do we delay a touch and go or a stop and go?

A

If there is traffic or wake turbulence we can make the pilot wait on the runway.
After instructing the pilot to come to a full stop but before issuing the takeoff clearance: If we know the length of the runway from the stoppage point inform the pilot.
If you do not know the length remaining inform the pilot and ask if a backtrack is required

Q

Define low appraoch

A

An approach over an airport or runway following an instrument approach or VFR approach, including the overshoot manouevre, when the pilot intentionally does not make contact with the runway

Q

when can we clear a pilot to do a low approach to a runway whose surface is occupied?

A

Specific instructions or restrictions are issued when required and traffic information is exchanged.

The tower controller alerts ground to the incoming low approach, and references their ground traffic on the runway. The tower controller passes traffic to the pilot doing the low appraoch and the ground controller passes traffic to the vehicle on the ground.

Q

What are the MArch UOM standards for doing low appraoches on an occupied runway?

Q

Define the option

A

The option allows a flight instructor to give a student a last minute arrival or derparture procedure for training.
for arriving aircraft it can be any of: Touch and go, stop and go, low appraoch, or full stop land
for departing aircraft it can be any of: simulated rejjected takeoff, reduced power takeoff, similated engine failure on departure.

We must be prepared and have space for any of the above things to happen if we authorize the option.

Q

For touch and go, stop and go and low approach procedures, when is the aircraft considered arriving and derparting?

A

Touch and go is arriving until it touches the runway and then it is immediately considered departing.
Stop and go is arriving until it stops and then it is considered departing
Low approach is arriving until it crosses the runway threshold or discontinues approach and is departing as soon as it is crossed the runway threshold or discontinues the approach.

Q

when can we assign speed adjustment instructions to IFR and VFR aircraft as an aid to establish visual separation?

A

Provided you do not assign an IAS
Apply speed ajustment instructions to IFR aircraft only if either of the following:
You have assumed responsibility for control
Coordination has been affected with the ACC

Q

At what distance should we issue wind information to approachign aircraft?

A

IF wind speed is more than 15 knots issue wind inforamtion when aircraft is approximately 2 miles from runway

Q

Woudl we rather have slow/fast planes close/far away from us?

A

Keep slow planes close so they don’t tie up the zone. If necessary make faster planes fly a wider circuit for spacing

Q

In excds what colours represent multiple circuits and a single runway operation?

A

Grey for multiple circuits/runway operations and blue for a single operations. The grey ensure the strip stays in arrivals upon departure and the blue moves the strip to departures as opposed to back to the top of the list in arrivals.
