SDG 3 Flashcards

1
Q

Why is SDG 3 important?

A

If the most significant causes of mortality and morbidity rates are not addressed, it can lead those diseases to go unnoticed and can decrease life expectancy.

• Many mothers experience severe complications while giving birth. Without the assistance of qualified health workers , and sterilized environments required during childbirth , maternal mortality during childbirth is extremely high in developing countries.

Q

How will achievement of SDG 3 improve global health and human development?

A

Global health
• By addressing the most significant causes of mortality and morbidity (i.e. HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, hepatitis) in developing countries, we can extend life expectancy.
• Having qualified health workers and sterilized environment during childbirth reduces the risk of birthing complications and infections, therefore reducing maternal mortality.

Human development
• Reducing the mortality rate form HIV/AIDS through education and immunization means that more children will have parents to provide for them, so they can develop to their full potential, will be able to attend school, and can receive an education where they can enhance their capabilities and expand their choices.
