NDIS
It provides services and support for people with permanent, significant disabilities and their families and carers. Aim is to support individuals with disabilities to live an ordinary life.
Eligibility crieria
Be an australian citizen
live in Australia where the NDIS is availible
need to have an impairment that is likely to be permanent
must be aged under 65
It assists participants to
• Enable Australians with disability access to essential services (e.g. doctors and teachers).The NDIS provides information about these appropriate support options and assists participants in accessing such services.
• Enable Australians with disability access to community services and support .These are activities and services available to everyone in a community, such as sports clubs, community groups, libraries or charities. Many individuals wish to be socially connected by accessing services and supports within the community.
• Maintain informal support arrangements
ensuring that they have help from their families and friends, hence the informal help that is always there and does not need to paid for.
The NDIS can pay for supports that are reasonable and necessary.This means they are related to a person’s disability and are required for them to live an ordinary life and achieve their goals. Funding is provided for assistive technology such as a mobility cane, nonslip bathmat, talking watch, shower stool/chair, over-toilet frame, bed rails and wheelchairs.
