Science Light Unit Flashcards
Light can pass through transparent materials, what do we call this?
Transmitted
Light can be bounced off opaque materials, what do we call this?
Reflected
Light can be taken into some materials, what do we call this?
Absorbed
Light can be taken into translucent materials and leave in many directions, what do we call this?
Scattered
What is the law of reflection?
(i = r) Angle of incidence = angle of reflection
What are the colours in the correct order?
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet
What can you use to split white light?
A prism
The process of splitting white light is called
Dispersion
What does a colour filter do? Explain using scientific words
It will only let a certain colour (eg. red) through and absorb all the other 6 colours. It only lets the colour that is matching to it through.
What are rainbow colors called?
A Spectrum
What colors are refracted the least and most?
Red - The least
Violet - The most
What will happen if white light goes through a red filter?
The light that went through will be red
What happens to light once it goes through a filter?
The matching colors will go through while the rest will be absorbed
What color would an Apple be through a blue filter?
Black
What would an Apple be through a red filter?
Red
