Science 11/24/24 Flashcards
Solar Eclipses
The Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun and blocks the sunlight from hitting a small portion of the Earth’s surface. Solar eclipses occur at the New Moon phase.
Lunar Eclipses
The Earth blocks sunlight from hitting the Moon’s surface. Lunar eclipses occur at the Full Moon phase.
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
New moon

Waxing cresent
Cresent on the right side of the moon
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
First quarter
Half the moon is lit. right side is lit
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
Waxing Gibbous
smaller, lummitated circle in the moon. Left side of the moon is not lumminated and in a cesent shape and the rest is lumminated.
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
Full moon
Fully lumminated
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
Waning Gibbous
Right side on the moon is not lumminated and in a cresent shape while the rest is lumminated

Last quarter
Half of the moon is lit. left side is lit
Draw the moon phase (on the paper)
Waning crescent
Left side of the moon is in a cresecnt shape and the rest is not lumminated
How long does it take for the moon to complete one revlution around the earth
27.3 days
How long does it take the moon to complete a full cycle of itt phases
29.5
Why does it take 2 additional day for the moon to complete its phases
As the moon moves around the earth, the earth moves around the sun.
How long does it take to complete a cycle of the moons phases
1 month
Why does the same side of the moon always face the earth
the revolution and rotation are the same
