Q

Student A, how did the group decide to include Student B’s perspective/conclusions into the overall presentation?

A

Amreen (used to see inequalities between people that causes bias in testing, helped to understand issues surrounding standardized testing)
- Kaylee (used to see inequalities in between people, helped come up with making tests optional)
- Viviana (used to see inequalities between people, helped come up with increasing readability
- Justin (came up with multiple solutions that differ from standardized testing, helped in coming up with our preferred solution, digital portfolio

Q

Student A, give one specific way that your thinking changed as a result of learning about student B’s findings.

A
  • Amreen - school funding affects grades, incomes affect grades,
  • Kaylee - talked of gender inequalities, never thought of that
  • Viviana - Pressure on students
  • Justin - showed other testing ideas that i never thought of

Q

What is an example of a compelling argument from one of your peer’s individual reports that you decided to exclude from your team presentation and why?

A

We decided to exclude the performance based assessment model which was located in Justin’s research project because it relied solely on creating and presenting large projects, which would give those students and schools with a lower income a significant disadvantage.

Q

What is a way in which your team’s resolution makes you think differently about your own individual research?

A

Viviana - The team’s research allowed me to view a different solution other then the readability of tests. For example Justin’s idea of digital portfolio allowed me to realize that it is a better solution because it allows students to show what they know and what they are best at. Readability is still a part of standardized testing, so it doesn’t really help students show off their creativity and knowledge.

Q

Describe an argument from one of your peer’s individual reports that made you think differently about your team’s solution or conclusion?

A

Amreen’s report made us think differently about our team’s solution because although a digital portfolio is a good option, it still doesn’t solve the achievement gap due to financial differences. High income students still have advantage in better schools, tutors, and test preparation.

Q

If you had another team member, what other perspectives or limitations could they have researched that would have made a useful contribution to the project?

A

Other perspectives are how standardized testing affects international students coming from a different country to a college in the United states. We can also add on about the other side we have with “If we had more time..”.
