Dandruff

- Not brushing hair that frequently so dead skin cells don’t shed
- Overgrowth of tiny fungal yest called malassezia
- Lack of vitamin B or fatty acids
- Diet with lots of sugar and carbs

- Dead skin cells that build up together to form white clumps that can be seen
- Can feel very itchy

- Antifungal shampoos such as ciclopirox olamine and ketoconazole
- Oilatum scalp anti-dandruff shampoo, Neutrogena T gel shampoo

- Serious cases have patches of red scaly and greasy skin
- Forms yellow-brown crust which can be itchy and slightly raised
- Can effect face scalp neck armpits chest and groin

- Antifungal shampoo can be used such as Nizarol
- If the symptoms worsen then vist the GP for possible oral antifungal or antibiotic treatment

- Hair obstructing the removal of dandruff for long periods of time

- Can be extreamly itchy and can lead to hair loss

- Regular shampoos are required
- Tar shampoos, Gels, Ointments and creams are used with salycylic acid to help remove the scales
- Polytar scale shampoo
- Deralex scalp psoriasis treatment gel are steroid and tar free options
