Causes
Allergy
A
- Body comes into contact with forigen particles that it doesn’t recognise
- Immune system is triggered which produces antibodies to attack the particle
- Histamine is released causing symptoms of allergy
- Predisposed allergies are atopic

A
- Runny nose, nasal congestion, wheezing, shortness of breath, sinus pain, itching and watery eyes
- Swollen lips and vomiting in severe cases from food allergy - triggers anaphylaxsis

A
- Allergic reaction to airbourne substances such as grass and tree pollen
- Eyes throat and sinus are affected becoming itchy red and watery

House dust mite allergy
A
- Microscopic creatures feeding on dead skin cells and they trive on the dusty bedding
- Allergy to the protien in the droppings

Food allergy
A
- Fish, shellfish and egg intolerance
- Due to lactose and gluten contenten allergy to milk and bread

Medication allergy
A
- Penicillin, asprin and opiates causes allegic reaction

Skin allergy
A
- Skin reaction to the environment caused by heat, clothing, chemical and jewellery

Antihistammines
A
- Block the release of histamine which relieves allergy symptoms
- Chlorphenamine example of sedating (piriton syrup and allergy tablets)
- Cetirizine is non-sedating use for long period unsuitable for <12yrs benadryl allergy

Topical antihisamine
A
- Crotamiton and mild hydrocortisone can help relief from inflammation and itchiness
- Anthisan bite sting 2%

Anti-inflammatory nasal spray
A
- Beclometasone, fluticasone and mometasone
- Nasal spray beconase hayfever

Decongestants
A
- Have pseudephadrine relieve nasal inflammation
- Only be used for short peroids of time otherwise symptoms can reappear Otrivine nasal spray

Mast cell stabliser
A
- Mast cell contain histamines
- Stablisers prevent the release of histamines stops itching and watery eyes
- Optrex allergy 2% eye drops

- Check age unable to have some treatment unless over 12

- Find suitable treatment possible may need referral to GP
