SB3d - Protein Synthesis Flashcards

1
Q

What are the steps in transcription?

A
  1. The DNA strand unwinds and hydrogen bonds break
  2. One strand will be used as the template and the RNA Polymerase binds to it at the non coding region.
  3. The RNA polymerase starts reading the bases and creates complementary bases for them.’
  4. After the RNA polymerase is finished that means the mRNA strand is created
5.Then the mRNA strand unbinds from the DNA
6, The DNA reforms back to its double helix formation and its hydrogen bonds reform
  5. Lastly mRNA strand leaves nucleus through the pores and goes to the ribosome

Q

What are the steps in translation?

A
  1. The mRNA binds onto the ribosome
2 . The first tRNA binds onto the triplet of bases carrying a specific amino acid
  2. A second tRNA binds onto the next triplet holding a different amino acid
  3. The first tRNA unloads its amino acids onto the second one which forms a peptide bond.
  4. This process repeats until a protein is formed
  5. Which then folds into a 3D shape
