The parotid
Where is the parotid gland and what kind of gland is it?
It is found between the ramus of the mandible and the mastoid and styloid processes, partly covered by SCM (just below and in front of the ear)
It is a serous gland
How long is the duct of the parotid gland? What muscle does it pierce and there does it open?
It is around 5cm long
It pierces the buccinator
It opens opposite the 2nd maxillary molar tooth
What is the nervous supply of the parotid gland?
The glossopharyngeal nerve

Where does the submandibular gland lie?
Along the body of the mandible internally
What is the shape of the submandibular gland and what kind of gland is it?
It is U shaped
It is both a serous and mucus gland
How long is the duct for the submandibular gland?
Around 5cm long
Where does the submandibular gland open?
Near the base of the frenulum
What is the nervous supply of the submandibular gland?
Facial nerve

Which salivary gland is the smallest?
The sublingual gland
What shape is the sublingual gland?
Almond shaped
Where is the sublingual gland located?
Its is located on the floor of the mouth, between the mandible and the genioglossus muscle
Where does the sublingual gland open?
In the floor of the mouth, and forms a horse-shoe shaped glandular mass around the lingual frenulum
