What is the mechanism of action of Salbutamol?
●Stimulates Beta2 recepts causing -Smooth muscle relaxation. -Skeletal muscle vasodilation. -Bronchodilation.
-Stabilisation of the mast cells reducing histamine release.
What are the indications for Salbutamol?
●Bronchospasm secondary to asthma or COPD.
●Prominent bronchospasm secondary to airway burns, smoke inhalation, or chest infection.
●Release syndrome with crush injury.
●Known or suspected hyperkalaemia with ECG changes.
What are the contraindications of Salbutamol?
●Known severe allergy.
What are the doses of Salbutamol?
MDI: 1 puff per 6 breaths. Repeat 6 times.
Nebulised for bronchospasm: 5mg for adults and children.
Can have continuous repeat as required.
●Nebulised for released syndrome: 5mg for adults and children. Repeat as required.
What are the side effects of Salbutamol?
●Tachycardia.
●Tremor.
What are the cautions of Salbutamol?
●None
