What is the mechanism of action of Loratadine?
It is a non-sedating antihistamine. It blocks the peripheral histamine receptors which blocks the histamine action, reducing itch and redness.
What are the indications for Loratadine?
●Minor allergic reaction confined to skin involvement.
●Prominent itch associated with anaphylaxis, provided all systemic signs of anaphylaxis have resolved.
What are the contraindications of Loratadine?
●Known severe allergy.
●Age less than one year.
What are the cautions of Loratadine?
●Pregnancy (not proven to be safe.)
What is the adult dose of Loratadine?
10mg for an adult or child aged 12 years or over. One off dose.
What are the side effects of Loratadine?
●None.
