Ipratropium Flashcards
What is the mechanism of action of Ipratropium?
●Bronchodilator.
●Anticholinergic agent with predominantly antimuscarinic activity. Causes bronchodilation by
blocking acetylcholine receptors stopping vagal response.
What are the indications for Ipratropium?
●Bronchospasm secondary to asthma or COPD.
● Prominent bronchospasm secondary to airway burns, smoke inhalation, or chest infection.
What are the contraindications for Ipratropium?
●Known severe allergy.
What are the cautions for Ipratropium?
●There are none.
What is dose of Ipratropium for an adult?
●One off dose of 0.5mg for adults and children. No repeat.
What are the side effects of Ipratropium?
●Tachycardia.
●Dry mouth.
●Blurred vision. (Usually only with repeated doses.)
