What is the mechanism of action of Ondansetron?
A
●Antiemetic.
●Blocks serotonin receptors centrally in the brain and peripherally in the GI tract reducing nausea and vomiting.

What are the indications for Ondansetron?
A
Clinically significant nausea or vomiting

What are the contraindications of Ondansetron?
A
●Known severe allergy.
●Less than 1 year old.
●Suspected serotonin syndrome.

What are the cautions for Ondansetron?
A
There are none.

What are the side effects of Ondansetron?
A
●Headache.
●Flushing.

What is the adult dose of Ondansetron?
A
●8mg IV one off dose.
●4mg IM. Can be repeated once after 20mins or give one 8mg dose IV if vomiting persists.
