Sabrina 23.04.24 Flashcards
Different types of construction are used for different types of use - is this correct? (general note: look out for questions which are seeking to understand/clarify submission)
Refer to other flashcards
No. Typically, different types of construction might be used.
St Monica: What type of flat roof was over the hall?
Ref other flashcards.
However, warm deck ie insulation above metal decking (supported by steel beams); covered with sarnafil membrane.
St Monica: What was the build-up of the flat roof?
Ref other flashcards.
However, ref flashcard above
St Monica: What are the main types of curtain walling?
Ref other flashcards.
However:
Stick
Unitised
Point supported
Structural Glazing
St Monica: What type of curtain walling was proposed for the project?
Stick.
St Monica: If stick curtain walling - why? what are the benefits?
What are the sealing/waterproofing methods?
Was to incorporate windows and doors - stick systems allow assembly on site and easy accommodation (flexible design) of other systems ie windows and doors.
Sealing and waterproofing - ??? (didn’t go into this level of detail - a RIBA Stage 4 Spatial Coordination, no specifications, general cost allowances)
St Monica: Acoustic Partition - what materials (and components) were proposed? the dB rating? specification? performance requirements? How appropriate level of dB known/advised?
Refer to other flashcards
St Monica: why a steel frame used?
Refer to other flashcards.
However, did not specify, but identified as appropriate:
-easily accommodated
-strong
-lightweight
-speed
-good spanning characteristics (primary purpose to support roof over hall)
St Monica: If specified, why might this have been specified?
Refer to above.
Firemen’s Cottage: What is subsidence?
Refer to other Decks.
Movement of ground supporting foundations due to inadequacy (cannot support building above).
BM: How did you advise the savings on the alternative waterproofing proposal? Did you also consider the programme implications? (general note: consider the cost implications/value for money for all construction items/variations/proposals)
Refer to other Decks.
However:
-identified alternative approach possible (experience with RIW before, aware of basement tanking internal or external)
-Identified all works that could be omitted from the original proposal together with the associated costs.
-Identified probably works required (refer to actual works required), and budgeted cost and potential changes to programme and duration.
-calculated total change in costs ie original omitted v new works and L&E/duration.
-Advised savings. (which was circa £10k??)
