A

Temperate climate and fertile soils (e.g. Fens) can be used for successful agriculture that may supply supermarkets etc.
Areas with attractive landscapes- increase visitor numbers for recreational purposes.
Natural resources available e.g. Minerals, forests or water.

A

Media/film/TV representing rural areas in a “golden view” encouraging people to move there.
Sites of cultural/historical importance such as world heritage site or national trust.

A

EU regional development funding - money given to declining areas or low income areas and the funding is used to improve accessibility and encourage tourism and recreation.
Relaxed planning controls for example the release of green belt land around Cambridge due to rapid population growth creating a cycle of new jobs and more pop. growth.

Explain the 3types of rural change?

A

Rural growth - through population increase a village may grow on the periphery = South Cambs - Cottenham & Cambourne.
Extreme decline = population decrease due to economic changes, decline in resources, overworking of land.
Rural change = different places are seeing decline and growth within the same area - NN.

A

Increased standards of living with higher incomes - can afford to commute and live in the country.
Increasing housing needs.
Dissatisfaction of urban living.
Increase in number of cars so people can drive to work in a commutable distance.
Improved technology meaning people can work from home.
Urban sprawl.
