RS Catholics W4 - The Meaning of Conscience Flashcards
An act of reason that _judges_ whether a human act is good or evil according to natural moral law.
Conscience
The law that is within the person as a human being which directs him/her toward an end/purpose.
Natural Moral Law
It summons us to choose and do good and avoid evil. There is a sort of “urge” or “push” within us to do that which is good and turn away evil.
Practical
A capacity that arises from our reason to determine and evaluate the quality (good and evil) of the concrete act in relation to the law.
Judgement of Reason
Enables us to be responsible for our actions.
Concrete Act
When there is a _lack_ of effort in judging the morality of the act resulting to poor sense of what is good or evil.
Lax
When we judge a simple act to be _evil_, or a lesser evil to be grave resulting to inordinate feeling of torment and guilt for no good reason
Scrupulous
When we judge the act that is really evil as _good_ and that which is really good or indifferent as evil.
Erroneous
Where we make _correct_ moral judgment on the quality of the act.
True
When a person is _sure_ of the evilness or goodness of the act
Certain
When he/she is _not sure_ of the evilness and goodness of the act.
