RS Catholics W2 Flashcards
has been defined as “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.”
Genocide
-the most infamous example of mass killing of people based on their ethnic or religious background.
-mass murder of six million Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II.
The Holocaust

Terrorism
uses physical or moral violence to force out confessions from the victims, punish the guilty, frighten opponents, or satisfy hatred
Torture
For many, this raises profound ethical issues, as they believe that human life begins at conception. The destruction of embryos is therefore seen as equivalent to taking a human life.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research
is often feared for its potential to lead to a “commodification” of life, where humans might be created for specific purposes, such as organ harvesting, which many consider a profound violation of human dignity.
Cloning
a procedure which aims to destroy the normal functioning of a healthy organ in order to prevent the future conception of children.
Direct Sterilization
also referred to as capital punishment, is given as punishment for heinous crime committed.
Death Penalty
morally permissible; here, surgery or drug or radiation therapy is not intended to destroy the functioning of a healthy organ or to prevent the
conception of children. Rather, the direct intention is to remove or to combat the
diseased organ; unfortunately, the surgery or therapy may “indirectly” result in the
person being sterilized
Indirect Sterilization
