RRAPID Flashcards
what crash teams are there?
adult, paeds, neonatal and obstetric
what is the hospital arrest number and out of ours emergency for Leeds?
999 and 2222
what is ABCDE?
airways, breathing, circulation, disability and exposure
describe airways?
obstruction is when there is an object blocking the windpipe and therefore airflow, and can be partial or complete. You need to perform the head tilt, or the chin lift jaw thrust if there is a potential for C spine injury
describe breathing?
look for the rise and fall of the chest, colour of the patient and count the respiratory rate. Then you need to listen for breath sounds and feel for exhaled air. Check if they use an inhaler
describe circulation?
look for signs of haemorrhage and colour, listen for normal behaviour and feel for pulse against their normal
describe disability?
seizure or altered blood glucose
describe exposure?
head to toe exam, for blood loss and temperature
how do you deal with adult choking situation?
assess severity, if it is mild then encourage to cough, if it is sever them start CPR is unconscious or do 5 back blows and 5 abdo thrust is conscious
what is the AVPU scale?
patient is alert, responds to voice, pain, is unconscious - put in recovery position
what is basic life support for adult?
if they are unresponsive then shout for help, open airway. If they are not breathing normally then call 999, do 30 chest compressions, then 2 rescue breaths and 30 compressions and continue
what is DR ABC?
it is used for basic life support - it is danger, response, airways, breathing, circulation - continue until help arrives or exhausted or patient recovers
if you ask a patient if they are choking and they reply what does this imply?
that there is partial obstruction so encourage them to cough. If not reply then call for assistance adn start blows/thrusts
in which order is CPR done?
start with ventilation for child and compressions for adult
how does choking resuscitation differ for babies?
hold them upside down for choking manoeuvres
