what are the screening questions?
pain in muscles, joints, back, dress themself, walk up and downstairs without difficulty
inspection?
gait cycle, limp, from the front - symmetry, muscle bulk and elbow extension, foot deformity and knee deformity and swelling
from side - spine, knee flexion, foot arches, toe deformity
behind - shoulder symmetry, spinal alignment, iliac crest alignment, gluteal muscle bulk, popliteal swellings, hindfoot abnormalities
what does hands behind head show?
shoulder adduction, external rotation and elbow flexion
what is hands out infront for?
asymmetry, joint swelling and deformity
what do you look for on palm of hands?
hypothenar and thenar wasting, supination and deformity
how do you observe hand function?
finger movements, clenching, gripping, squeezing MCP joints
after knee assessment what do you do?
passive internal and external rotation of hips
what do you look for on feet?
callosisites, deformity and swelling
when might there be discomfort on foot?
when squeezing the MCP joints
what does the head tilt check?
cervical spine movement - to check lumbar put two fingers on back whilst leaning over
look for symmetry of spine and range of movement
what are the end pieces?
focused examination of any pathological joints
