Seen as a threat to return to the ancien regieme…not welcomed
What was the law of 2/3
2/3 of the councils must be chosen from exsting members of the convention
Reaction to the law of 2/3?
Angered Parisians who wanted the convention to be replaced
Angered monarchists as Conention opposed monarchy and therefore prevented royalist dominance
Why else were royalists annoyed about the new constitution?
They believed that the Sept 1795 plebicite for it had been rigged

What happened at Vendemaire
a large royalist crowd of 25k gathered to sieze power from the convention
Covention’s 7.8k troops used cannon and killed over 300- not another parisian uprising for 35 years
