In normal time- 50% of a labourers’ wage
1789 (following 1788 bad harvest)- it was 88%
What was going on in production/textile employment?
Textile employment and industrial production = fell by 50%
Had fallen by 50% in 1789 (effect of 1786 Eden Treaty)
What did 1786 Eden Treaty do?
Badly hit French industry; increased the import of British goods as mutual lowering of tariffs between France and Britain
Why was Eden treaty so bad for France but not England?
With lower tariffs, British cotton hardware and industrial products would enter France
BUT economic crisis in France meant that there was no food or drink surplus to sell to Britain while Br textiles/industrial goods swamped the French market

Reveillon riots on 28th April - led to strikes and troops opened force and killed 25
