A

Salary- 700-1k vs 20k
absenteeism practised by bishops; they could recieve payment from two churches even though they only worked one at a time

A

all had no priviledges- had to pay direct taxes (taille), do feudal dues (eg corvee) and pay indirect taxes eg gabelle and tithe

A

Bourgeoise could become a noble de robe by buying into it through venal offices ( 2 bought a day)
Urban workers v poor- Fr coal produciton= 1/20 English
Seigneural dues for the peasants (eg champart- grain payment every year and cens- cash payment every year)
Rich land owningn v bound to seigneur (had to pay banalties to use wine press and mill)

BOURGEOISE CLOSER TO THE NOBILITY THAN THEIR OWN CLASS

Differences between nobility and bourgeoise?

A

Honorific privileges of nobility eg being beheaded not hung

Wealth comes from unearned income vs bourgeoise had to work for their wealth

Similarities between bourgeoise and nobility?

A

Not different in wealth
Venal officers- 2 times a day
Bourgeoise would often add noble names like duc and baron - no opposition to this suggests no inherent distinction
Some of the jobs of the nobles in Britanny were stewards/gamekeepers/chairmen- dispels illusion that nobles were that far above
