Recipe: Micellar water

Answer 3

Micellar water contains tiny particles of oil suspended in water. It can be used as an all-in-one makeup remover, gentle cleanser, and toner. As always, customize this recipe to suit your needs by varying the hydrosol or using an infused oil.

Ingredients
1 cup (8 fl oz) rose (Rosa spp.), neroli (Citrus x aurantium), or other hydrosol of your choice
⅛ tsp lecithin, granular or liquid
½ tsp vegetable glycerin
½ tsp jojoba or argan oil
½ tsp castile soap
Natural preservative (optional)

Directions
Pour the hydrosol into a large glass measuring cup or jar, and place the measuring cup into a shallow pan of water.
Heat gently until the hydrosol is just about body temperature—check by spooning out a few drops onto your wrist; the hydrosol should feel neither hot nor cold on your skin. Remove the measuring cup from the hot water bath.
Add all other ingredients to the hydrosol, and mix thoroughly. (If you are using a preservative, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions.)
Once any foam has dispersed and the mixture has cooled to room temperature, pour into a flip-top or squirt-top storage bottle and label. (Spray bottles won’t work well for this.)
To use, moisten a cotton pad and gently wipe over the skin of the face, avoiding the eyes. No need to rinse!
Label, and store at room temperature for up to 3 months, or longer if refrigerated. If using preservative, shelf life will be longer.
