What are the two types of role conflict?
“Inter-Role” and “Intra-Role”
What are intra-role conflicts?
Two roles in one job conflicting with each other, leading to one having to be done worse so the other can be done better.
What are inter-role conflicts?
Having a role in a job, and a role at home, leading to one having to be done worse so the other can be done better.
When role conflict is happening, how can it be solved?
Intra-Role: Having someone else cover for you with the other role in the job, so they aren’t being switched between and one can be focused on.
Inter-Role: Off-days from work give the opportunity for someone to relieve themself from that stress and work at what needs to be done at home.
What is a strength of Role Conflict?
It highlights social inequalities and power imbalances, with people having to work multiple things while some only have to do one.
What is a weakness of Role Conflict?
Oversimplifies complex social issues by framing them as just struggles.
