What is mindfulness?
Psychological approach that has up try stay in the present moment, rather than worrying about the future / past.
Basically being mindful about the present, not past or present.
What are the main features of Mindfulness?
Regulation of thoughts, to ensure negative ones stay away.
Awareness of the present with your bodily sensations e.g. sight, smells and sounds
MBSR is used for what in Mindfulness?
It is used to help people reduce stress by helping someone ignore their stressful thoughts.
How is stress treated by using Mindfulness?
Uses MBSR to use multiple techniques, being:
-2.5 hour long group sessions which are demanding.
-A body scan which helps a client observe their thoughts without judging them.
-Changing the position of your body to focus on physical sensations e.g. Yoga
MORE is used for what in Mindfulness?
It helps an addicted person become more aware of their behaviour, as addictive behaviour is often automatic.
How is addiction treated by using Mindfulness?
Chocolate excerises activate their cravings. If the client can learn to avoid their cravings, the same can happen with addictive cues.
What is the strength of mindfulness?
It has wide practical applications, having been successfully applied very wide. An example is lowering the stress levels of people who have received cancer treatments.
What is the weakness of mindfulness?
It’s effectiveness is exaggerated, as evidence is actually mostly inconclusive. This makes it weak as it means it’s not the superior technique in any way.
