RNA Transcription Flashcards
RNA poly1
Makes rRNA. Single precursor made into 18s and 28s subunits. Uncapped in nucleolus
Rna poly2
Makes hnRNA which is processed to mRNA. Have 5’ end cap
RNA poly3
Makes tRNA, which is uncapped
DnaG
It’s a primase in prokaryotes
Promoters
Required, tata box 25-30 upstream, or ccaat 40-100.
Enhancers
Tissue specific positive control. Orientation and distance independent.
Repressors
Like enhancers, but negative
Pol 2 accessory proteins
TFIID has TBP, all need TBP. Make complex holoenzyme
Enhancer binding proteins
Recruit transcription factors, usually bind as dimers. Some need ligands or phosphorylation.
Histones
When near promoter, inhibits transcription. When acetylated, transcription increases.
What does dna methylation do?
Inhibits transcription. Occurs at cytosine residue
