Plasma Specialization Flashcards
3 types of apical projection
Microvilli, stereocilia, cilia
Microvilli function and structure
Projection of plasma membrane. Contains MF, surrounded by glycocalyx. Increase surface area
Stereocilia structure and function
Contain MF. In ear and epididymis
Cilia
Motile to move extracellular materiel. Contain axoneme
Flagella
Only in sperm. Mitochondria around basal body
Zonulae occludentes
Tight junctions. Near apical surface, encircle it. Junctions from three proteins
Proteins in tight junctions
Claudins, occludin, JAM.
Also ZO 1,2,3
Zonula adherens
Just underneath occluding junctions. Cadherins bind actin underneath by catenins cell. Need calcium.
Desmosome
Desmoproteins bind IF and two cells together. Plaque junctions.
Gap junction
Circular patches of connexin. 6 molecules form channel, several hundred patches form junction. Allow cyto connection
Focal contacts
Transmembrane integrins bind ECM molecules. Uses actin and talin.
Hemidesmosomes
Like desmo, but anchor IF to ECM. Plectin, Erbin, BP230. Anchor to basal lamina
