What is the Royal Charter?
It’s been granted powers or rights by the monarch.
Awarded by Queen Victoria (1881).
RC requires RICS to promote the usefulness of the profession for the advantage of the UK public. Requires RICS to act in public good.
Where are RICS headquarters?
Parliament Square, London.
What is the Lionheart?
- independent charity ran by RICS, for RICS professionals.
- established over 100 years ago.
- provide financial support, health and wellbeing packages, free professional counselling, work related support and legal advice.
Why do I want to be Chartered Surveyor?
- global recognition and I can be part of an international professional community.
- get elite professional status and support.
- part of promoting best practice in the profession.
What is the RICS matrics?
Support members entering the profession and RICS to shape the future of surveying.
What is the role of the Standards and Regulation Board?
- responsible for regulatory functions, strategy, governance, structure, policy and operational oversight.
- oversight of professional standards: admissions, education, disputes…
- board is independently led and also compromises of non-member.
Overview of the RICS governance structure?
The governing body is the Governing Council. RICS board and Standards and regulation Boards both report it the governing body.
Why was the Levitt review commissioned?
- the report was commissioned following a Treasury management audit, to determine if there were any shortcomings.
- any failure in governance.
- make future recommendations
- determine if the board members dismissal was just.
Conclusions of Levitt Report?
- governance not sound.
- non-exc board members were wrongly dismissed.
- lack of clarity across senior roles.
What is the Bichard Review and why was it commissioned?
Commissioned by governing council after Levitt Report to review the purpose, governance and strategy of the RICS.
What was lord Bichard’s findings?
36 recommendations made.
No. 4 you members having a voice and taking lead with RICS matric and governing council.
No. 5 Diversity and inclusion panel should be assembled to advise.
