What is the difference between effective and efficient communication?
Effective is to achieve a purpose.
Efficient is to provide information in a clear and concise manner.
What are barries to communication?
Difference between verbal and non-verbal communication.
Difference in backgrounds or cultures.
Body language.
Use of Jargon.
Difference in timezones.
Physical disabilities (hearing, visual, speech)
Different forms of body language with examples?
Passive - No eye contact, defeated.
Assertive - Eye contact, firm but gentle.
Aggressive - Loud, invading space, tense.
What are negotiations?
Discussions to reach an agreement agreeable to both parties.
What should you consider before entering negotiations?
Authorisations to complete negotiation and red lines.
Do you have sufficient information for negitiation.
Do you know who you are negotiating with.
Structure your negotiation(acceptable opening position).
What are the main barriers to a successful negotiation?
Lack of trust.
Missing or inaccurate information.
Cultural differences.
Lack of emotional intelligence.
Communication problems.
What is a “without prejudice” offer?
Genuine attempt to settle a dispute and this cannot be used in court as evidednce of admission.
What negotiation tactic?
Collab - create a win-win by working together
Compromise - meet in the middle
Combat - adversarial/aggressive
