RIBOSOMES Flashcards
What are the other name of the ribosomes ?
Proteins / organelles within organelle / Palade particle
Who discovered ribosomes ?
Discovered by Palade in animals cells and Robinson and Brown in plant cells.
Give some feature of ribosomes ?
- Non membranous cell organelles
- Present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes
- Most abundant cell organelles
What type of ribosomes are present in the prokaryotes ?
70s ribosomes are present
Associated with plasma membrane and cytoplasm
What type of ribosomes are present in the eukaryotes
and where ?
In cytoplasm
- free ( non secretory protein)
- bound (over the surface of the RER){secretory protein}
In organelles
- Mitochondria
- Plastids
What is the difference between secretory and non secretory protein ?
Secretory protein travel from one place from to other but non-secretory protein doesn’t travel.
`What are the two subunits of ribosomes ?
- Larger (dome-shaped)
2. Smaller (cap-shaped)
What is the chemical nature of the ribosomes ?
RIBONUCLEOPROTEIN
{ribonucleic acid + protein}
What is required by the union of these subunits ?
Mg 2+ –> 10-4 M / 0.0001 M
