MICROFILAMENT AND INTERMEDIATE FILAMENT Flashcards
What are microfilament ?
- They solid , unbranched and cylindrical structure
2. Diameter - 5-6 nm or 50-60 angstrom
Where the microfilament are found ?
They are found associated with the plasma membrane and in the cytoplasmic matrix.
From which proteins are these microfilament are made up of ?
Contractile protein - Actin and Myosin
What is the function of these microfilament ?
Function -
- Provide support to the plasma membrane
- Helps in cytoplasmic streaming or cyclosis \ cytomiscis (movement of the cytoplasm)
- Form the contractile system of the cell
- Helps in the formation of cell furrow during the cytokinesis
- Forms the cytoskeleton of the pseudopodia
What are the intermediate filament ?
They are the hollow , unbranched , cylindrical structure
Diameter - 10 nm
From which protein are they made up of ?
Protein - Roel like , noncontractile proteins
KERATIN AND LAMIN
Where are they found ?
They are found in the cytoplasm and the nucleus
What is the function of the intermediate filament ?
- They form the scaffold \ network of the chromatin
2. They for the nuclear basket near the nuclear pore
