GLYOXYSOMES Flashcards
Who discovered the Glyoxysomes ?
They were discovered by “Tolbert and Beavers”
From where do they originate ?
they originate from ER and single membrane bound
For what they contain enzymes for ?
They contain enzyme for glyoxylate cycle.
What is glyoxylate cycle ?
Through this the fats are converted into the carbohydrate.
It is also known as glycogenesis.
Where Glyoxysomes are present ?
They are found in -
Germinating seeds , especially in germinating fatty acid seeds (such as - castor seeds , groundnut seeds etc.)
Where insoluble lipid food reserves must be turned into the soluble sugar for growing tips
Why animals do not execute such conversion ?
Animals do not execute such conversion because they do not posses glyoxylate enzyme.
