Respiratory meds Flashcards
Beclometasone, budesonide
ICS- modify transcription to decrease mucosal inflammation, bronchodilation and decrease mucus
Salbutamol, terbutaline
SAB-agonist- Reverses bronchoconstriction
Salmeterol, formoterol
LABA- relax airway smooth muscle and increase mucus clearance by increasing cilia action
Montelukast
LTRA. Blocks CysLT1= decrease mucus, oedema and bronchoconstriction
Tiotropium
Selective for M3- block vagally mediated constriction
LAMA
Theophylline
Adenosine receptor antagonist- decrease bronchoconstriction
Ipratropium
SAMA- blockade of muscarinic cholinergic receptors. Blocking cholinergic receptors decreases the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This decrease in the lung airways will lead to decreased contraction of the smooth muscles
Some M2 also
S/E ICS
Candidiasis, hoarse voice
S/E LABA
Fight or flights, tachy, palpitations, increase renin, increase glycogenolysis. Decrease B Blocker effect
S/E LTRA
Headache, GI, dry mouth, hyperactivity
S/E LAMA
Dry eyes, retention, dry mouth
S/E Adenosine receptor antagonist
Narrow therapeutic index. CPY450 inhibitors increase concentration
S/E SAMA
M2 activity- increase HR, force of contractions can result in arrhythmias. Constipation
