reproductive system Flashcards
situation of ovary
anteriorly—–umbilical artery
posteriorly—-internal iliac artery
position of ovaries
nulliparous — long axis horizontal
having upper and lower pole
multifarious women —– long axis horizontal upper pole lateral
lower pole is medial
external features of ovaries
- two pole /extremities– upper tubal pole and lower uterine pole
*two borders —-anterior mesovar ian border , posterior free border - two surface lateral and medial
peritoneal relation ovary
the ovary is almost coverd except the mesoovariam border
visceral relation of ovaries
*Upper pole — Broader , related to uterine tube , suspensory ligament attached to ovary .
*lower pole – narrower , related yo pelvic floor .
*anterior border—straight related to uterine tube , form the **hilus **of ovary
*posterior border —convex related to uterine tube
*lateral surface –related to ovarian fossa
*medial surface –covered by uterine tube
arterial supply of ovary
ovarian artery , uterine artery
venous lymphatic of ovary
drain in ivc on right side
left renal vein on left side
lymphatic in lateral aortic and preaortic nodes
nerve supply of ovaries
sympathetic t10 -t11
parasympathetic s2-s4
histology
*germinal epithelium—cubical cells
*tunica albuginea— thin layer of connective tissue
*cortex –ovarian follicles , each has 1 oocyte, 400 in whole reproductive life ..
*oestrogen—-follicular cells
progesterone—corpus luteum
*medulla nerve lymphatics
clinical anatomy of ovary
*prolapse of ovary
*ovarian cysts –can cause [stein leventhal syndrome] deep voice hirsutism
*carcinoma of ovary *endometriosis —commonest site having [chocolate cyst]
uterine tube /salpinx /fallopian tube …situation
situated in upper margin of broad lig of uterus
dimensions of tubes
10cm long
lateral end enters in peritoneal cavity through abdominal osmium about 3mm
subdivisions of fallopian tube
1 lateral end [funnel like] * infundibulum* —-attached to tubal pole of ovary , one fimbrae is large ovarian fimbrae
2.. medial to infun is ampulla it is about 6to 7 cm [fertilisation ] [2/3]
3.. isthmus 2to 3 cm 1/3rd narrow
4.. uterine/ intramural/interstitial–1cm long opens jn uterine ostium
blood supply lymphatic of tube nerve
uterine artery —medial2/3rd
ovarian artery —lateral 1/3rd
lymphatic–lateralaortic and preaortic
nerve sympathetic–t10 to L2
parasympathetic–s2to s4
clinical anatomy of fallopian tube
1..salpingitis inflammation of tube
2… sterility [patency of tube by rubin test , hysterosalpingography ]
3tubal pregnancy
4 tubectomy
