REPORTING: PROS AND CONS OF CONVERSION OF AGRICULTURE TO INDUSTRIAL AREAS Flashcards
it is the act of
transforming the land into another use other than
its agricultural purposes, may it be industrial or
residential, as approved by the Department of
Agrarian Reform.
Land Conversion
The fast increase in population necessitates
more living space, which can only be provided by
reclaiming land that has been utilized for other
purposes. This also necessitates the conversion
of agricultural land, water bodies, and other lands
around metropolitan centers into human habitats
or even manufacturing factories.

ADVANTAGES OF CONVERSION OF
AGRICULTURAL LANDS TO INDUSTRIAL AREAS
ECONOMIC GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT OF NEW APPROACHES, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, BETTER REGULATIONS OF FOOD,
DISADVANTAGES OF AGRICULTURAL LANDS TO
INDUSTRIAL AREAS
DOWNFALL OF AGRICULTURE, NATURAL DISASTERS AGGRAVATE, REDUCED RESOURCES, POLLUTION
Rapid industrialization is one of the main reasons
for economic growth in a country. Due to the
urban realty market going down, buying rural
agricultural lands for industrial conversion is
more often than not done. This increase in
industrialized land space indeed affects the
economy, hence it can be very beneficial and
advantageous.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
Industrial agriculture has aided in the
development of new methods for transporting,
storing, and processing food, allowing these
items to keep longer without spoiling. This has
contributed to an increase in the amount of food
accessible while decreasing waste
DEVELOPMENT OF NEW APPROACHES
It is undeniable that people must eat in order to
live. Although some of us hunt and forage for our
own food in the wild, the vast majority of us
purchase our food from supermarkets and
grocery stores, which truly already a big part of
our daily lives.
DEVELOPMENT OF NEW APPROACHES
The industrial field is evidently in need of
thousands of workers to function as a whole.
With the continuously increasing unemployment
the rate in our country, it also provides opportunities
to the jobless, which also helps them sustain
their financial needs and at the same time
decreases the unemployment rate in our country
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Food crops are sprayed with chemical fertilizers
and pesticides to boost growth and eliminate
insects and other organisms that could kill them,
while cattle, chickens, pigs, and other species of
livestock are kept in regulated circumstances that
favor rapid reproduction and weight gain. This
process eliminates the natural way of production
and regulation, however, its efficiency is better
than usual.
BETTER REGULATIONS OF FOOD
As a result of deforestation, beneficial plants,
bacteria, and fungus that filter or feed nutrients to
farmlands will be completely removed. Alongside
these, the loss of “KABUHAYAN” will surely have
an impact on our local farmers.
. DOWNFALL OF AGRICULTURE
In the Philippines, natural disasters are imminent.
We all know how important trees are to humans
and their habitats in terms of reducing wind
speeds and severity. In fact, it is proven to some
areas in our country that were affected by
numerous disasters through the time.
NATURAL DISASTERS AGGRAVATE
Environmental benefits such as wildlife habitat,
clean air and water, flood control, groundwater
recharge, and carbon sequestration will not be
available to converted areas anymore. Most
crucially, food availability and predictability would
be reduced because agricultural land provides
major non-market products and services.

REDUCED RESOURCES
In terms of industrial pollution, industrialization
has resulted in environmental devastation. Highly
polluting industries produce dust, smoke, fumes,
and hazardous gas emissions. With that, it
adversely impacts human health which results in
numerous diseases that may eventually lead to
death of some affected citizens in the area.
