What is pacifism?
The belief that violence is always wrong.
What are Quakers?
A pacifist domination of Christianity. During WW2 many quakers did not fight but served in non-combat roles (driving ambulances).
What teachings of Jesus encourage Christian’s to avoid violence?
“Turn the other cheek”
“He who lives by the sword will die by the sword”

What teachings of the Buddha are against all violence?
The first moral precept - Do not harm any living being.
Dalai Lama said “peace can only exist if everyone respects all others”
We should show loving-kindness (Metta) and compassion (karuna)
What do pacifists believe in?
- Prevention of war by promoting peace and justice
- Prayer and meditation can help people be at peace with themselves and others
Where do Christian pacifists take their inspiration from?
Jesus - “blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” Matthew 5:9
